Movers will not assemble pieces disassembled by the homeowner. Heavy pieces (over 300 pounds will be offloaded into the garage only.

After the delivery is completed, you should walk through the rooms with the driver to conduct a final inspection of the house and truck.

What if there is a problem with the shipment

  1. Homeowners have several options to have the issues resolved.
  2. Problems with a shipment can range from delivery delays, damages and missing items, or unexpected storage needs, to disputes about additional charges.
  3. Whatever the issues, the moving company should work with you to help answer any questions and to resolve any concerns.
  4. Consider the following options in attempting to express your concerns to the moving company and having the issues resolved: file a claim for damages with the claims department or go with a neutral dispute settlement program.

Insurance

Valuation is not insurance. Valuation is the degree of worth of the shipment.

Movers must offer at least two valuation options to the consumer shipper: (1) Limited Liability or Released Value Valuations of “$0.60 cents per pound per article” and (2) “Full Value Protection” ($1,500 to $15,000).

It’s important that shippers be provided a clear choice between the two levels of valuations.

The valuation charge compensates the mover for assuming a greater degree of liability that is provided for in its base transportation charges. (49 CFR section 375 appendix A).

The most common level of valuation is “$0.60 per pound per article” (free of charge).

Bonus

An individual moving company may offer any accessorial services they wish at any price they set in their tariff.

Accessorial services may vary from company to company.

It is advised that when considering the selection of movers that you review the list accessorial services and charges.

Next, the moving consultant will get in contact with you to confirm the details of your move and possibly schedule a home visit or video walkthrough call if we need clarification on any of the information you provided (noting the number of miles you are traveling, every piece of furniture that will need to be transported and any obstacles, such as stairs or narrow spaces).

Finally, you’ll receive the binding estimate. The binding estimate is based on the list of
items and services you requested at the time the estimate was prepared.

Your binding estimated price is guaranteed not to change unless you require additional services or add other pieces to your inventory list.
